Choosing the perfect outfit is important. Your clothing choices are essential to your business. Your outfit will draw the right attention to the right place-your face.

What you wear says a lot about who you are. This is the first impression a new client will see. Color plays an important part. Solids are better than patterns but don’t discount it if you look & feel great in the outfit while looking professional.

Tips For Successful Business Portraits

Men – Suit and tie is recommended for the professional. Which tie? See the colors and what they can mean below. If you are after a more casual look a dress shirt and tie is acceptable. The shirt should be full length sleeves. Clothing should be pressed and shoes polished if you are doing a full length portrait. Grooming - 5 O'clock shadow is not recommended and making sure to trim ear & nose hair for the mature males is a good idea.

Women – Dress, Dress suit, dress pants, blouse, tailored jacket. If you are wearing a blouse the sleeves should be full length.   Women photograph best in black - but adding a pop of color whether it's a necklace, a kerchief or polishing your nails shows personality.  Clothing should be pressed and shoes polished. Wear your hair and make-up the way you normally wear it. Trying something new can result in a look you are not used to and be a disappointment to you.  Make sure to get your hair cut & styled a week before not the day or two before your appointment.

TIP: Darker, solid clothing is slimming and so are vertical pleats-

Eyeglasses- To prevent glass glare, try to have your lenses removed.  If this isn’t an option, ask your optometrist or local eyeglass store, if you can borrow or rent a pair of empty frames. Glass glare can sometimes be prevented by tilting your glasses, but this is not foolproof.

Jewelry- Wear simple earrings and necklaces that keep the focus on your face.

What colors to choose and what they say it says about you. . . .

Black – is associated with strength, authority, bold, powerful, sophistication and elegance. It is considered to be a prestigious color. Blue - is associated with trustworthy, dependable, expertise, stability, serene and fiscally responsible & secure

Teal - it signifies trustworthiness and reliability.

Purple - is associated with being creative and imaginative.

Grey - is associated with stability, power, trustworthiness, conservatism, sophisticated and being formal Red – is associated with energy, danger, strength, power, determination and leadership as well as passion, desire, action and love. Orange – is associated with happiness, joy, balance, warmth, creativity, determination, attraction, success, encouragement, and stimulation.

Yellow - is associated with being optimistic, confident and logical .

Green – is associated with growth, life, energy, fresh, safety and harmony. Dark green is also commonly associated with money.

What NOT to wear: No white or light beige/pastel shirts without a jacket. White reflects the light and detracts from the main focus- your face!

Avoid wearing flesh colored tops and blouses- the will blend your face into your clothing. Watch out for bold patterns–whether on a shirt, tie or jacket. In a group, bold patterns take away a sense of cohesiveness, but sometimes it works alone .Also, if the image is going to be used online, bold patterns can created optical illusions that are distracting.

If you need an executive, corporate business headshot & want a portrait you love- E-n-E Photography is the way to go! Check out what one company had to say about us:

TESTIMONIAL: “The folks at E-nE Photo were very easy to work with during our last couple of professional photo shoots. They set up their studio on site and were very patient and friendly working through the different photos needed. The head shots turned out fantastic  with several touched up digital formats and they were made available with quick turnaround. E-n-E was understanding of our immediate needs and accommodated our schedules and requirements of a quick turnaround on a photo and a retake of another (due to color choices of client only). I would definitely recommend them for professional shots and we will be using them in the future.” ~Jason Vincelette - Vice President, Product Management & Marketing of PERFECT COMMERCE
